Today, id like to talk about the event of UN Habitat. Well, it will be refered to a share. So, if you have any idea of the discussion, you can have a mouth.
So, it
actually is unbelievable for me for getting that chance. When I got that email
of selected pasrticipant, I thought it was just like kidding, or something. But
its absolutely not kidding. So I was excited.
Ok, well have you already knew about anything UN
Habitat ?
UN Habitat is
an International Organization that has worked by United Nation.
So, it has a
holding to develop the slum areas, bad sanitation, and to serve the better
environmental for youth and children. The focuss is about urban development.
For defining
the new programmes of UN Habitat alongthis year, they held the IYMM (Indonesia
Youth Meeting Movements) in Jakarta, UYM (Urban Youth Meeting) in Surabaya, and
Prepcom III (Preparatory Committee) in Surabaya.
As known as
me, IYMM took a dialoge that concern about the good environmental. I think
that’s a ll that I knew, for further information you can go subscribe its
website.
I will
continue to UYM. Urban Youth Meeting had 4 wide issues :
1.
Urban Equity & Youth Development : UN
Habitat GSUYR 2015/2016
2.
Eco-Friendly Urban Development
3.
Urban Youth Against Extremism
4.
Empowering Youth through Urban Local &
Informal Economy
It has total
about 300 participants from Taiwan, Tiongkok, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand,
Manila, Nepal, India, South Afrika, USA, Holland, etc.
As known as
me, most of Indonesian participants are from ITB, IPB, UGM, and ITS, as they
concern about urban and environmental.
There were two side parallels, and I took Urban Equity & Youth Development : UN Habitat GSUYR 2015/2016 as the first parallel, and Empowering Youth through Urban Local & Informal Economy as the second one.
There were two side parallels, and I took Urban Equity & Youth Development : UN Habitat GSUYR 2015/2016 as the first parallel, and Empowering Youth through Urban Local & Informal Economy as the second one.
In the first
parallel, the speakers were :
- · Mr. Douglas, omg he is just an amazing person. He helped the children in Afghanistan, the victims of the war. And so many. He is from UN Habitat Unit.
- · Prof. Oyebanji, He is the director of UN Habitat.
- · Prof. Barsha, from Nepal. He is a National Researcher
- · Miss. Vanna Sook, UN Habitat for Cambodia.
We mainly discussed about the previous programmes of UN Habitat, and
what they hace done so far to help maintaining the urban issues. They had done
so many projects.
Such as :
The second
parallel, the speakers were :
- · Mr. Hasyim Zaidi, from Oxfam Asia Regional Centre.
- · Mrs. Brenda Castro, Asia-Pacific Urban Development Manager.
- · Christian Sabilal Pussung, Brilliant Indonesia Group
- · AIESEC leader, mr. Diaz
There were
about 40 participants in that forum, they were from Vietnam, Tiongkok, USA, and
Nepal. And we all had time to speech about our background of organizations. So,
I talked about GMBU. At the first time, they thought it was an English name.
But when I described it as Garda Muda Bibit Unggul, they kinda be like “oh, that’s
a local organization.” I told that we have concern about the social issues,
especially to integrate the governance sustainable programmes to develop the
appropriate education for children and youth. As I concern, we have already
took a part for helping the poor people to be able to get the high education.
That we talked about the urban issues, it provides a complex problems from all
the dimension, such education, environment, health, economic, security, proper
settlements, and so on. So, we should integrate all the sectors to get one wide
establishment to urban development. Some of our programmes are monthly
discussion about the current issues of Indonesia, Social movement for Education
assistance, and making an entrepreneurial program, such as “Agent Travel”. And
we already worked currently about 3 months. As we more likely to open the
employment opportunities for getting job. What makes our Agent Travel different
from the other is, despite of just getting fun from travelling, we do travel
for purpose. Such, we do socialize to the people how important to keep the
environmental clean. Indeed, we concern not only in education sector, but also
economic and environment.
There were
some of the other local organizations, like ARKOM Jogja, Zero Waste Movement,
and C2O. they were local organizations, but had international name, so they
didn’t quite surprised.
There were
some of the international organizations that took part of the discussion : World
Vision International (WVI), UNDP Asia-Pacific, SDG Movements, AIESEC, and Urban
Care.
Actually, when
I told them about the GMBU, mr. Christian suggested me to change its name for
being more Internationalized. And I just like “Ok, thank you sir” and he kept
telling me that GMBU programs are good.
And for the
prepcom III, I joined as the member of UN MGCY exhibition. So, we promoted UN
MGCY to the comers.
I will tell
you what UN MGCY is. So UN MGCY is the United Nations Major Group Children and
Youth.
It has a part to maintain the
children and youth for getting the better sustainable living. Its secretary is
in NYC. Actually, they are very welcome for local organization to get engaged
with them, as long as it has an international name. Mrs. Sharoon (the leader)
told me that the name of the organization is very important, as she said that
the members of UN MGCY are from over the world. In that booth, we talked much
about maintaining the standart of environmental for youth and children.
There
were around 70 exhibitions from International Organizations. And as I ever excited
join the UN MGCY was that I met a lot of amazing people there, such as good
motivators. They had so many great experiences as the good negotiators. I
learnt many things from them. And I consider that my self was just nothing. It
makes me get to be open minded person, not easy to judge someone. And being
more patient. And I addicted to be a part of organization events.
